Week Forty Our Final Hurrah!

Day 180

The first day of the final week of school found some more young friends visiting Mr. Hamer's model railroad.

They were keen observers finding twenty items on a scavenger hunt throughout the entire model railroad.

Lots of fun!

One of the river scenes on the layout.

Depending on any given day, you may find a boat tied up to the wharf.

We would like to thank the St. Bernard Parent Council for the free pizza piece they gave to each student in the entire school.

Say...did anyone catch this "double rainbow" the other night?  It sure was a beauty!

Mr. Hamer was busy in his kitchen this past Saturday night.

He wrote each student a personalized note to be included as the first page in their "Memory Book" which they will be bringing home tomorrow or Wednesday.  (Some children still have a couple of pages to catch up.)

It was fun taking apart each class book we made this year.

And placing them in "student order."

Mr. Hamer also coloured each cover as a gift to the children.

We were off to the park with the other grade two classes today.

"I close my eyes!"

Mount Everest is on his bucket list!

"We can fly!"

Mrs. Miedema with newborn!

And her little son.

Two park friends.

A brave soul in the water in the cool breeze!

Yet another brave soul!

Swinging in the breeze!

Hide and seek!

Sleepy girl.

Rock and roll!

Great balance.

In the shade!

Teeter totter.

Or see-saw!

Interesting light.

"Give me a push, please!"

Making up a play to perform.

Hanging out with friends.

Cool kids!

Love the lads!

Monkey business!

Times two!

Splashing around.

Don't spray Mr. Hamer!

A look back at our scientist visit.

Our male scientist is leaning on something.

What could it be?

Aha...dry ice!

Putting a leaf of lettuce in the dry ice.

Too cool!  Or...make that...too cold!

Let's see what happens when we drop the piece of lettuce.

Yup!  It shatters like glass!
Check in tomorrow for more pics from our scientist visit and further pics from our final week of school as it progresses towards the end of the school year...yabba dabba doo!
Mr. Hamer, OCT

Day 181

A busy week of evening activities has me catching up once more with my blog entries.

Day 181 was Tuesday.

And...a big day it was...

...for our Grade Six pupils.

For it was the date of their graduation ceremony.

The gym was set up in a beautiful fashion.

Nothing but the best for our pupils!

A lovely cake offering us our board wide message for the year.

Other treats too.

Nice decorations.

On Tuesday we reviewed our food groups.

Fruit is good for us.

Grain as well.

Love those veggies.

We need some protein.

And dairy products too!

Moo!

Yum!

Colourful.

Grown in Canada.

Another view.

With a little quiz.

Then it was off to the park once again!

Mr. "M"

Wave to the camera!

Hey...a simple machine!

Looks like fun!

Yup...loads of fun!

A quiet moment.

Or two.

Social climbers!

Great balancing act.

Times two!
Check in tomorrow evening for pics from Wednesday of this week!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 182

On Wednesday of this week we were given your class memory books.

Each student turned to a favourite page.  For this little girl it was a Halloween activity.

The memory book is very special.

This lad remembered Shrove Tuesday when we devoured a buch of pancakes.

High school students return to St. Bernard and tell me that they still cherish their class book!

This girl remembered the month of November.

Indeed, a great keepsake from the year!

He recalled us reading "Four Seasons for Toby!"

All smiles!

The March Break certainly was fun.

Checking out a classmate's class book.

January was a good month with some snow days thrown in for good measure.

He'll have lots of great memories to reflect upon.

With Winter Play Day being one of them.

A great school year it was!

October found us only two months in!

A nice smile.

For hope for a better world for all.

This little boy remembers far back!

To the first day of school.

She remembers her Bible stories.

Especially the one about the tax collector, Zacchaeus.

Ditto for him.

In the story of Zacchaeus, we learned that anyone can change if they put their mind to it.

A happy friend.

Because she knows that God created her!

A happy lad.

So excited...he was moving his book all around!
He remembered the story of Easter.

A colourful friend.

Who cherished autumn days.

A creative learned.

Who enjoyed practising her artistic skills.

A lovely friend.

Who loves her family.

A fuzzy image of a lovely little girl.

Who recalled playing outdoors in winter.

Back to our great scientists.

Placing a balloon in a chamber of dry ice.

Yup...it shrinks!

But slowly expands as it warms up.

How about another balloon?

Too cool!

Please check it later to see more pics from our scientists and other images from the talent show held on the final day of school!
Mr. Hamer, OCT

Day 183

We have reached the final day of the school year.

Our last gathering as a school community is in the gymnasium for our year end `Talent Show`.

Individual acts appeared in the show.

Such as this wonderful dancer.

Singing and dancing troupes performed.

Such as these five junior students.

Musicians played.

Boys took to the dance floor.

And showcased their abilities.

Teams sang with accompaniment.

Solo musicians performed.

Hip Hop dancers were big ticket items.

The entire student body and proud parents attended along with the teachers and other staff.

Some sang old standards.

Some played old standards.

Teachers volunteered their time for the students.

Teachers MC`d the show.

Singers sang.

Players played.

This talented lad is the older brother of one of his classmates.

Proud parents video-taped the performance from off in the distance.

These girls...

...showcased some great dance moves!  Another older sister of one of our classmates is seen to the right in the image.

A lovely trio.

With lovely voices.

Teachers got in on the act.

As we see with this dynamic duo.

Getting ready...

..for their song to start.

Then it`s off to the races...

...with tremendous acrpbatics.

Solo singers are brave.

And they pull through.

A great year so far.

Fine quality talent.

Dressed for the occasion.

I wish I could play the harmonica like he can!

More dancers...

...dancing to a song with a cool beat.

Then it was time...

...for Mr. Chaplinsky to say farewell.

Teachers and students alike are sad to see him go!

One final check-in with our cool scientists, a mom and dad of a little boy in our class.

Their final experiment of the morning.

Was to make homemade ice cream!

Magical that was.

As the children waited with eager anticipation.

The helping crew of teachers handed the cups out.

To eager children.

Who just couldn`t wait for a taste!

Yum, yum!

Back to the final day of school.

Mr. Hamer returned some microphones to the church which were borrowed for the talent show.

On his return, he spotted this class having fun making bubbles.

Oh what fun!

Back in the classroom...

...we enjoy our final moments as a group...

...for the year.

Some fun poses!

Doing a final check of our desks.

Say `cheese!`

Time for some much awaited Freezies.

On a fairly hot day.

Happy classmates.

Happy friends.

Enjoying a nice, refreshing treat.

Then we held our own classroom talent show.

Brave souls displayed their talents...

...for their classmates.

Mr. Hamer used the Smartboard to locate the songs the children required.

The carpet area was transformed...

...into a mini dance floor.

The children had already practised their routines.

Some last minute choreography changes.

Peace!

A fine audience.

Some great hip-hop moves.

Lots of energy.

Smiles too!

Airborne!

Singing a song...

...accapella!

Then it was off to the learning commons for this lad to play a song for us.

On the piano!

A little bit of recess fun on the last day.

Warm smiles.

Four-square.

Time to empty the desks.

And pack up the belongings.

With a big fan.

To create a cooling breeze.

Some last minute chrome book time.

With the room cleared.

Time for some dancing.

And kibitzing!

The end of the soon approaches.

And it`s outside for all of the classes.

Off to the buses.

Where the teachers congegrate.

To say goodbye.

Smiles.

And some sad faces.

As everyone bids each other farewell.

Have a great summer!

We`ll miss you!

Stay safe!

There`s Mr. Chaplinksy!

Summer vacation is here!

Some last minute chats.

The teachers and staff assemble.

To offer a wave.

We will miss you!

Take care!

Off they go!

Adieu!

So long!

Farewell.

The buses forgot one kid...oh...no...it`s just....Mr. Papineau!

Mrs. Leslie says goodbye to Ms. Nancy on the right who will be leaving us.

Does the summer take me back to Paris...

...or back to Rome...

...or back to reading the Jerusalem Post while floating on the Dead Sea in Israel...

...or, perhaps the Arabian Desert in Jordan...

...maybe the Cappadocia region...

...or salt flats...

...or Ephesus, all three locations found in Turkey.

Nope...it`s none of those places for this summer...as I`d rather spend my time with my little puppy dog, Lilly, at home here in Ottawa with the rest of my family.

It`s been a great joy for me to be your child`s teacher this year.
Have a safe and peaceful summer vacation with your family!

All the best,
Mike Hamer OCT
